Mulberry Effie Zip Around Purse

I reckon that owning your first Mulberry purse will soon be up there with other coming of age moments such as christenings, turning 18/21, passing your driving test, getting married, the birth of your first child etc. The emotions I recently went through when holding my new Mulberry purse for the first time felt pretty similar to those experienced during other life changing moments. Except my christening, I don't really remember that and can't imagine being particularly enthralled about having a stranger pour water on me.

This day had been a very long time coming for me! I've wanted a Mulberry purse for the last 5 years but various factors (obviously including financial restrictions) had been in play. I'm awful at saving up and well, when you're a student/graduate putting money aside for a Mulberry purse does tend to slip down your priority list! Aside from that though, I was waiting to find my ideal combination of design, style and size. I did come close with the Daria Slim Zip Wallet but was on the hunt for something a little bigger and then came the Effie Zip Around Purse.

I'm a fan of most of the Mulberry campaigns. I loved their SS12 Brighton beach collection though I am slightly biased as I did live there for 4 years...! The new AW12 campaign doesn't disappoint either with inspiration clearly taken from Where The Wild Things Are / The Gruffalo (hence the gold tag on the bag). Inside they also included a sheet of stickers of the Mulbery Monster (I've just decided that's his name) which was a nice touch. Presentation of luxury products is key and Mulberry never fail to do it well.

On to the actual purse. One of my favourite things about the Effie Zip Around is the size, it's definitely the larger of the Mulberry purses which I love. It comfortably holds my passport and snugly holds my iPhone which is something I've always been keen for as it's just super handy when travelling.

My other favourite feature is that the finish is in matte black. I do like shiny black finishes on products though that said I'm not massively keen on anything patent. I also always thought I'd end up buying a purse with some serious gold hardware on it but something about the classic design of this with the large tree embossed on the front appeased me. I thought it rather timeless.

This zip detail is a new design for Mulberry this season. They're somewhat famed for their braided handles and straps on their handbags but it's nice to see they're now incorporating this look into their wallets and purses. The most common design being their gold fob which I do love and think would love equally beautiful on this purse.

As I mentioned and you can see from the concertina style inside, there is plenty of room in this purse. Perfect for those of us who are awful at emptying out old receipts...! There are 8 card slots in total, 4 on either side with a long coin pouch down the middle and space for notes either side of this. There are also 2 slim pockets the sit behind the card slots on either side of the purse. Lets say either side again, either side.

So that's pretty much it! As a Mulberry fiend I always love seeing posts on pieces from their new collection so hopefully this satisfied a thirst for a few of you. If you're considering buying the Effie Zip Around purse then I hope this gave you a good insight before you splash your cash! Aside from that I hope you're all having a good weekend and enjoying the much overdue sunshine!

Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35

Unless you've been living under a rock, no doubt you're all aware that the BB Cream phenomenon has taken the UK beauty scene by storm & it's pretty easy to see why! A miracle skincare/make up hybrid that claims to prime, conceal, brighten & moisturise? Yes please! Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the products in Asia many brands have recognised a gap in the British beauty market and jumped on the BB bandwagon with Bobbi Brown as no exception!
Bobbi Brown's take on BB Cream has been a long time coming & naturally I had high expectations from the connoisseurs of natural make up. You'll be delighted to hear I wasn't disappointed! The instant difference that sets this BB cream apart is its colour range. Traditionally BB Cream has had more of a one shade suits all approach and it's refreshing to see that Bobbi Brown's version is available in 5 shades; Extra Light, Light, Fair, Medium and Medium to Dark.

Application is a total dream. The consistency is that of a light cream which means it needs less attention than tricky liquid products. It blends beautifully and goes on so smoothly that this can easily be applied without a mirror or brush and instead just smoothed onto the skin with fingertips – a method I've tried & tested!
In terms of where this sits on your make up counter, it would be somewhere between your foundation & tinted moisturiser (very close to your tinted moisturiser), in fact it could easily knock it off the table & into the bin! The reason being, that it has similar coverage to a tinted moisturiser but is far more beneficial to your skin and wears longer. Along with SPF 35 the Bobbi Brown BB cream boasts a myriad of benefits including; brightened skin, diminished appearance of fine lines, reduced redness and minimized pores. I haven't been using it long enough to report back on all of these claims but I'm happy to buy into it for now and for the most part the ingredients seem to be doing their job!

I must admit, although excited I was a little skeptical to try this product. My main issue with BB Creams and tinted moisturisers has always been that they often leave you looking too shiny & dewy for my liking. Considering this is a product that I'd get the most use out of in summer that really isn't what you want! However this finish is fairly matte, which may not be everyone cups of tea but is perfect for me as I prefer to use other products to highlight. That said, it still leaves your skin with a natural glow, evens your skin tone & generally gives a very natural finish. You will need concealer to cover problem areas & this is definitely a product I'd feel most confident reserving for summer months & good skin days when you just want a bit of light coverage.
The Bobbi Brown BB Cream (SPF 35) is such a versatile product that I have no doubt it'll slot easily into anyone's make routine whether you use it as a primer under other makeup, on its own to create a natural look or simply when you're out & about in the sun and fancy making your face look a little bit more gorgeous.

The Bobbi Brown BB Cream is available exclusively at Bobbi Brown counters in John Lewis until the end of August extending to other retailers after this time. If you can recommend any other BB creams that you think I'll like then let me know in the comments section below & I might just give them a whirl!
